A New Beginning

A New Beginning explores what happens when the sculpture moves into open space. Branches circle through the work, leading the eye around and inward as leaves and blooms overlap and extend away from the wall. The composition can seem fairly simple at first, but more details emerge with time. A nest is tucked into the center with a single egg inside, while a blue bird sits perched among the branches. Shadows from the leaves continue the shapes onto the surrounding surface and make it harder to tell exactly where the sculpture ends. The work feels as though it is reaching out and collapsing into itself.
