On the Fence

On the Fence exists somewhere between the familiar and the imagined. It draws on memories of fences and the way climbing growth spreads across and overtakes them. Paper and wire become wood, vines, flowers, and sky, moving between abstraction and something more recognizable. Color, texture, light, and shadow create different contrasts throughout the work. Some petals shimmer while others catch shadows, and the fence sits against a twilight sky as if it has been briefly lit by approaching lights. With time, the materials and layers begin to reveal themselves, and something that first seemed familiar can start to feel less certain.
