Study of Wildflowers grew from an interest in density and the feeling that everything cannot be taken in at once. From a distance, new shapes continue to appear within the larger composition. Up close, individual flowers contain their own layers of detail, sometimes even hiding parts of themselves. Larger and denser areas give the eye a place to begin, but focusing on one means temporarily ignoring another. Changes in scale, color, transparency, and shadow create countless opportunities for discovery. Wildflowers are a starting point rather than something the work needs to fully become. Their variety allows the composition to feel active, layered, and a little chaotic.
